Three Counties Show
A three year-old breeding North Ronaldsay ewe took the Primitive Championship honours at the 2007 Three Counties Show at Malvern on Sunday 17 June.
The ewe, belonging to NRSF Chairman Rita Peace, beat off fierce competition from Shetland, Manx Loaghtan and Castlemilk Moorit rams, a Soay ewe and a Hebridean ram from Helen Brewis which stood reserve champion to the North Ronaldsay.
Primitive championship judge, Edward Lambert, said the quality of the stock forward was very high and added “…a breeding ewe that is suckling lambs and still in great condition takes an awful lot of beating in my book.”
The North Ronaldsay ewe went on to represent the Primitive breeds in the Supreme Sheep Championship against a Cotswold, Kerry Hill, Portland, and Southdown, judged by Maurice Duce. Maurice commented that it came a very close third, to a Kerry Hill ewe and a Portland ram that took the Supreme and Reserve tickets respectively.
